With driving over land, people can go to different destinations at their own pace. Also, people will get the option of where they want to go, and actually be able to choose versus being forced to deal with a cruise lines itinerary. Also, people who choose to drive through the great state of Alaska can pick rooms that are modest compared to the fancy cabins that are available on a cruise ship. People will even be able to go shopping and cook their own meals, if they happen to get a room with a small kitchen, which will save money.
When people decide to go on a vacation, they do have the option of driving somewhere versus taking an airplane.
